The new year is just days away and if you’re like me, you’ve already started planning your New Years Resolutions. You may even be thinking that this is the year you are going to keep your New Year’s Resolutions.
Each year, millions of people around the world plan on keeping their New Year’s Resolutions, but according to Forbes, only 8% of those people achieve their goals.
8 Ways to Help You Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions
Whether you have made a resolution to eat healthier, be more successful, or lose weight; these eight tips will help you stay strong and succeed with your New Year’s resolutions, making you part of the slim 8% who successfully achieve their goals.

Write a list of all your New Year goals
Writing your goals down makes them real. Create a list of your New Year’s resolutions and place it somewhere you’ll see it often. If your goal is to eat healthier, post it on the fridge. If it’s related to work or finances, keep it near your desk. Without a written reminder, it’s easy to make excuses and slowly slip back into old habits.
Choose resolutions that truly matter to you
Your goals should have personal meaning. Ask yourself why you want to achieve each resolution. If you’re only setting a goal because everyone else is doing it, motivation will fade quickly. When a resolution connects to something important in your life, you’re far more likely to stick with it.
Start small and be reasonable
One of the biggest mistakes people make is setting goals that are too big or unrealistic. Instead of overwhelming yourself, start with small, achievable steps. For example, if your goal is to start a profitable blog, begin with a realistic milestone such as earning $500 by the end of the year. As you reach smaller goals, you can gradually raise the bar.
Reward yourself for small accomplishments
As a human, we all love to be rewarded sometimes. When it comes to keeping your New Year’s resolutions, set goals and reward yourself often. If your goal is to lose 100 pounds and you lose 20, reward yourself for your hard work. Keeping yourself motivated and having something to look forward to is always a great way to get things done.
Get help from a friend or family member
Tackling a goal like a New Year’s Resolution can be hard, so don’t plan on doing it alone. Ask for help from friends and family members who can help you stay accountable. Maybe you’re looking to stop eating junk food, let your friends and family know so they don’t try to tempt you with it in the future. Or ask a family member or friend to become your diet buddy. Whatever the resolution is, you’re going to need help so ask.
Give yourself time to achieve your goal
I’m sure we all would love to lose ten pounds by tomorrow, but that isn’t very realistic. Set your resolutions with plenty of time to achieve them. Set a specific time frame that you would like to achieve small goals and mark them on your calendar. Be specific and be realistic.
Don’t beat yourself up over small setbacks
We’re only human. We all fail, sometimes. Don’t beat yourself up over one small piece of cake or gaining five pounds. Instead, learn from it and do better next time. Grow from your mistakes and keep fighting until you achieve your goal.
Stick to it
It’s been said that Rome wasn’t built in a day. Whenever you are trying to better yourself, it’s going to take time and feel like a lot of work. Stick to it. Make sure you fight yourself everyday to better yourself and eventually, it will stop feeling like work and more like life.
I really hope these tips help you keep your New Year’s resolutions this year. Tell me what are you hoping to achieve?
