I wish I was one of those women who created Pin-worthy recipes, but unfortunately, I am not. My food tastes good, but it hardly ever involves more than just a few ingredients. So, the other day when my husband told me my in-laws were coming up, I had to scramble to find something to make. Of course, I hadn’t been to the grocery store in a while and my options were kind of limitless.
As I was searching in the deep freezer for ideas, I came across a pack of hamburger. Since you can make so many things with hamburger, I tried to think of the easiest thing possible to make. That’s when I thought of haystacks. Haystacks are super simple and look nothing like real haystacks, but people always love them.
Haystacks don’t require many ingredients, to make them, but depending on your preferences, you can top them with endless possibilities. For my haystack recipe, I start out with my wintry chili recipe.
While the hamburger for the chili cooks, I multitask and I get all my toppings ready. I will usually cut up a tomato, an onion, and get some lettuce cleaned and ready. By the time I am finished doing all of this, my hamburger is usually cooked and I can finish making my chili.
Once my chili is ready to eat, I let it simmer in the pot and I am ready to prepare my haystack.

- 1 Tomato diced (optional)
- 1 Onion diced (optional)
- 1 Jar Salsa (optional)
- 1 Tub Sour Cream (optional)
