Yesterday my kids had an early dismissal because of all the snow we’ve been getting. We tried to do everything with the kids outside to keep them entertained for their half a snow day; we rode sleds, we made a snowman, and we even had a few snowball fights – we literally had the most fun together!

It wasn’t until it was almost dark when we decided to come inside. By then we were all exhausted and everyone was hungry. I was hoping to make something super easy and fast, but I already had hamburger in the fridge that had to be made. I tried to think of the easiest thing I could make with the hamburger and came up with this delicious wintry day chili recipe. It isn’t the most complicated recipe and this was the first time I ever made chili this simple, but it turned out pretty good.

  • 2 lbs Ground Hamburger
  • 1 can Diced Tomatoes
  • 1 can Tomato Soup
  • 1 can Black Beans
  • 1 can Kidney Beans
  • 1/2 can/cup Water
  • 1 onion
  • 2 packets Chili Seasoning
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar

  1. Brown hamburger in skillet, season with pepper, if desired.

  2. Dump hamburger into a large pot and combine; diced onion, diced tomatoes, tomato soup, 1/2 can of water, black beans, kidney beans, and 2 packets of chili seasoning, mix together and cook on medium, stirring until boiling.

  3. Once boiling, turn the pot down to simmer and add 1 cup brown sugar. Mix until dissolved. (for a sweeter taste, you can add more brown sugar)

  4. Turn pot to simmer and serve.
