When I heard that Myrtle Beach had a Hollywood Wax Museum, I knew we had to plan a visit during our month long stay at some point. And, I am so glad we did!
Even if we had already been to the Hollywood Wax Museum in Pigeon Forge and seen all the wax celebrities wax museums are seriously so much fun to visit!
Seriously! Where else can you try on silly props and pose with your favorite celebrities while laughing like a crazy person?
I know you probably have a lot of questions about the Hollywood Wax Museum in Myrtle Beach, so here’s everything. I hope it helps you plan a great visit of your own. The pictures in this post are a mix of me posing with the characters and the kids + a few of Michael. Enjoy!
What’s There to do at the Hollywood Wax Museum in Myrtle Beach?
The Hollywood Wax Museum in Myrtle Beach offers 3 great attractions for 1 great price. You can purchase admission to just the wax museum but I recommend buying the ticket with the 2 extra attractions. This is really the best deal and worth every penny.
The Wax Museum
The main attraction at any Hollywood Wax Museum is the wax museum itself. Hence you can purchase a ticket to just the wax museum, the wax museum and one attraction, or for the best deal add on both attractions and enjoy all 3 during your visit.
Hannah’s House of Mirrors (a mirror maze)
Is it a mirror or the way out? Hannah’s House of Mirrors is a fairytale mirror maze that kids and adults will both love.
Outbreak – Dread the Undead
This attraction may not be suitable for families with young children but if you’re brave enough, you can visit Chemacorp Lab where a zombies outbreak has just taken place. NOTE: no actual zombies touch you in this haunted attraction.
Traveling to the Hollywood Wax Museum in Myrtle Beach
Finding the Hollywood Wax Museum in Myrtle Beach is really easy, even if you’re not a local. The museum is located near Broadway-at-the-Beach which has other top attractions like; Ripley’s Aquarium and the Hard Rock Cafe. If you don’t plan to visit any of those attractions, the museum is relatively close to the only Costco at the beach and the Coastal Grand Mall.
Things to do Inside the Hollywood Wax Museum
If you have never been to a wax museum before and are visiting for the first time, you will have a blast. Inside the wax museum, you can basically do anything you want – other than touch the wax figures. You can pose with them, make silly faces with them, and dress up in funny props and pretend you’re acting a scene with them.
Though the actual wax museum only takes about 1-2 hours to get through, even with all the posing, its an unforgettable experience.
And, the wax figures look so incredibly real, that the pictures you take literally look like you’re actually with the real celebrity! Just take a look at this photo of my son with Ben Stiller.
It literally looks like he’s just watching while my son gets caught in a snake, don’t it?
While there’s plenty of male wax figures and action scenes, there’s still a lot for women and girls to enjoy too! Here’s one of my favorites with Reese Witherspoon as Legally Blonde.
The Hollywood Wax Museum has 2-stories of wax characters, so you will probably find at least one celebrity wax figure that everyone in your group will love.
There are so many wax figures too! And, they’re not all from the 2000’s, you will even find some celebrity wax figures from older generations there too! I think we spotted Lucy, Elvis, and other celebrities that were famous before I was born!
While the celebrity wax museum also has a ‘horror’ section that includes characters from Tales from the Crypt and Frankenstein, we opted to do the detour and bypass this section all together.
Like I mentioned above, the entire wax museum experience only last about 1-2 hours but its so much fun that I highly recommend checking it out!
Hannah’s House of Mirrors
Downstairs inside the Hollywood Wax Museum you will find both Hannah’s House of Mirrors and the Outbreak – Dread the Undead attractions.
Hannah’s House of Mirrors takes you through a mirror maze and can be quite fun. I just recommend, if possible, not to follow anyone else into the mirror maze, as it can take the fun out of finding your way out.
The mirror maze begins with a 5-minute story about a Princess, Hannah, who becomes trapped in the mirror. You and your group must then find out if you are the chosen one and rescue her from the mirrors.
As you begin your journey, you’re thrusted into a tunnel that will get you dizzy. Then you begin your journey of finding your way out of the maze.
While this entire attraction only takes 15 or so minutes to escape, it is a fun attraction. And, if you do purchase the 2-attraction add on with your Hollywood Wax Museum admission ticket and opt not to do Outbreak, the staff will allow you to do the mirror maze backwards instead. It’s a little more challenging, but still very fun.
Outbreak – Dread the Undead
I’m not much of a haunted house person and we had previously done this attraction in Pigeon Forge and while it was fun, it just wasn’t for me.
So, we opted not to do this attraction and to do the mirror maze twice; especially since we had kids with us. But for those of you thinking of doing this attraction, we were told that nothing actually touches you and there are no ‘real’ actors inside.
Overall, our time at the Hollywood Wax Museum was really fun. Even if you don’t care about celebrities, you can still have fun using the props and pretending you’re in a movie scene. And, since you can touch everything, it’s a fun attraction for the whole family.
