How To Teach Your Child To Give This Holiday Season #DreamWithHer 7

One of the first toys I ever bought my Brantley, he was about 6 months and he loved it. The whole time we were in Walmart, he just played with it and laughed. I knew he would be  my kid who loved his toys, and I was right. And to this day, my Brantley still loves to play with toys. No matter what it is, he always wants it.

And, sometimes my husband and I have trouble with this. We often feel bad telling him no, but we are finding it crucial to teach him about giving to others.

If you’re wanting to teach your child to give this holiday season, it’s not to late. Check out these tips to get your child to want to give to others.

Go holiday shopping for a child

who is less fortunate. Your child may be used to always getting what he wants, this time find a child in need and have your child help to pick things out for that child. Make sure you tell him how important of a task he is doing.

Consider donating to CARE.org

to help make another child’s dream become reality. Whenever you donate with CARE.org, your money goes directly to women and children who need it most.

This year, my family received the 2016 CARE Holiday Shopping Catalog which is full of charitable gifts that you and your child can pick out together.

CARE GIFT CATALOG

Your gift will help girls like, Evelesi. Evelesi dreams of being a nurse, but will you dream with her and help to make those dreams a reality?

Evelesi.

Now through December 16th, join CARE on their Facebook page where you can have the chance to meet and interact with these women and girls.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Have your child help to make room for all of his new Santa surprises by having him help to get rid of old toys and clothes. Explain to him that you will be donating stuff he doesn’t play with or no longer fits into to kids who don’t have all the advantages he does.

Pay it forward.

Teaching your child to give, starts with you. Next time, you and your child are in a restaurant pay for someone else’s coffee or meal and let your child watch the person’s face as they find out someone else paid.

Volunteer their time.

One of the greatest things we can ever give is our time. Volunteer at a nursing home, homeless shelter or children’s hospital and help brighten someone else’s day.

Collect blankets and old towels

to donate to your local pet shelter. Animals at pet shelters often need everything. Have your child help by asking friends and family for old blankets and towels to donate to the pet shelter.
