If you’ve finally broke down and decided to purchase a Nintendo Switch for your kids this year (or yourself, I’m not judging), let me just say, you’re going to LOVE it!! My husband and I purchased the Switch sometime during the beginning of this year and we seriously cannot get enough of it!
The Switch has just the right amount of kid stuff and a ton of fun stuff for adults too! When Mike first talked me into buying the Switch, I thought he was crazy throwing out over $300 for another game system, but I couldn’t deny, I was anxious to try it out.
To get the most out of your new Nintendo Switch, there are a few games and accessories you have to have right away. This guide will point out which Nintendo Switch accessories have been the handiest for our family of 5 which includes 3 kids ages 4, 6, and 8.
Accessory Guide for Nintendo Switch
For all those who grew up playing Nintendo games, Mario Kart is a childhood staple! The game is probably one of the only Nintendo games that hasn’t changed much throughout the years and it is still just as fun as you remember – if not fun-er.
Mario Kart Deluxe 8 still offers the racing and battle modes, but now it offers more characters and car choices.
This game is still 4-player and the one I recommend most for families who plan on playing together because it’s great for all ages.
As a kid, I spent years trying to defeat the Legend of Zelda on the old Nintendo 64 and I never won. Thanks to the new Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, I can relive my childhood over and over again.
The new Legend of Zelda comes with better graphics. Better objectives and is just better the whole way around. Although the game is still just one player, it’s a great game for couples to play together.
I personally never played any of the older Smash Bros. Games, so I can’t really compare this game to them, but I will say, the reviews are amazing! Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was just released on 12/7, but the gaming world is still raving about it.
This game is also a 4-player game, so it should be another one that is great for family play. Unfortunately, I won’t know until my kids open it Christmas morning.
The Nintendo Switch console only comes with two Joy-Con Controllers, so if you have more than two people playing, you’ll want to be sure to buy an extra set of Joy-Cons.
If you are used to playing with Xbox controllers, I recommend buying the Nintendo Switch Pro Controllers.
As with any gaming system, I recommend buying battery packs for the controllers and the charging station to go with it. This helps cut down extra cost of batteries and is well worth it in the long run.
A carrying case for your Nintendo Switch is essential if you plan on taking your Switch with you on the go.
There are many case options, but I personally recommend this very cool Mario Kart one HERE.
Just like any electronic, these days, you’ll want to make sure to protect your screen by buying an anti-glare tempered glass screen protector.
This is especially important if young children will be playing with it.
