Our Day at Blackwater Falls in Davis, West Virginia

Hey there friends, this past weekend Michael and I got the kids ready and decided to go on another small summer ride to Blackwater Falls in West Virginia. It was a much needed road trip – though it did rain and thunder a bit – we were still just so excited to finally get outside to enjoy the beautiful summer weather. During our day trip, we saw so much wildlife, stopped at the most adorable tiny church (&post office) and had a super amazing picnic lunch.

Read on to find out more about where to find the church and what activities you can do near Blackwater Falls.

Okay, let’s talk about that cute little church for a minute, can we? That adorable church is located just a few miles before Blackwater Falls in a town called, Silver Lake, West Virginia. The town is so small, that if you blink, you may just miss the sign leading you to the smallest church in 48 states.

On any other given year, you could go inside the adorable church and bonus smallest post office but due to COVID, both buildings are currently closed 😢. Still, that shouldn’t stop you from getting some fun pictures with the super tiny buildings.

Now on to Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, West Virginia. This place is such a great place for a hike or short walk to the infamous Blackwater Falls waterfall.

Unlike most West Virginia state parks, the trail to Blackwater Falls is mostly steps or a small hill followed by steps. Though short, this hike does get fairly busy and you may find yourself waiting for your chance to get a good photo of the falls if you go on a weekend, like we did. In case you find yourself not wanting to wait, I personally think the top overlook of the falls is more picturesque than the overlook closest to the falls.

Besides having a waterfall, Blackwater Falls State Park also has tons of hiking – you can literally hike off the side of the mountain 😳 or stay at one of their adorable cabins, or even picnic there. For more fun adventures, Blackwater Falls even offers an exciting 1/4 mile long slope for sledding! While I haven’t got to experience this fun adventure, it’s definitely at the top of my winter bucket list this year. Though we didn’t do much during at time at Blackwater Falls State Park, this time, thanks rain, we will be back again.
