The new year is finally here. Or, should I say the new decade. It’s time to totally make your life 100x’s better. Go from, I want to to I will. Stop looking at everyone else’s life and wondering how your life can be better and finally make 2020 the year (and the decade) your life finally becomes the life you wanted!

You can do this! Today I’m sharing the simplest tips for making your New Year’s Resolutions stick.

No more giving up days after the new year and feeling bad because this year you will finally do it!

Make Sure Your New’s Year’s Resolutions Are Realistic

One of the biggest reasons our New Year’s Resolutions don’t stick is because of lack of progress. We don’t see results and we get tired of trying, so we give up.

Sure, we all would love to loose 20-pounds in two weeks, but we all know that is completely unrealistic. Things like loosing weight takes time and a whole lot of work. It’s not going to happen overnight, so make sure your resolutions set realistic goals.

An example of a realistic New Year’s goal you could make is to lose 20 pounds by the end of the year. Sure, there’s room for improvement, but I bet you feel a whole lot better making progress than not meeting your goal.

Don’t Beat Yourself Up

One of my biggest pet peeves about New Year’s Resolutions is the fact that we’re supposed to completely change our lives just because the day changed. There’s 365 days a year, we have plenty of days to better ourselves, just because it’s January 1st does not mean we can’t change our bad habits in February.

It’s the first day of 2020 and I ate chocolate cake for breakfast. Ha. I had planned to cut back on sweets but I forgot. It’s the first day of 2020, but it’s not the only day I can set a goal.

We all mess up, so forget about it and try to do better afterwards.

Reward Yourself Often

There’s a reason why schools use reward systems to get children to be good and promote positive behavior – it works.

Much like with a New Year’s Resolution, when we reward ourselves in small ways for keeping our resolutions, we have more of a chance making our resolutions stick.

While you don’t have to reward yourself with expensive and fancy gifts, your reward can be something as simple as a piece of cake.

Whenever you are going into a new year, it can be stressful to think you only have one day to change your life. When in reality, you have a lifetime. Every day you wake up, we get a chance to choose who we are and what we want to do, so make everyday count and make this the year your New Year’s Resolutions finally stick! You got this!
