If you follow along my Instagram (you really should) you may know my family and I just embarked on a cross country adventure – I’m talking Maryland to California all by car!!! I had been dreading this trip, even though I knew it would be a once in a lifetime trip, I just really hated the thought of being so far from home. But, honestly, I am so GLAD Michael persisted because this trip was everything – & more – that I ever wanted!
I wanted to share a sort of small recap + detail our time in California while everything is so fresh in my mind. I know I have a lot of readers on the west coast, so if any of you are looking into visiting Roseville, California this post will detail exactly why I think you need to plan your trip ASAP!!
So, First Thing First, Where is Roseville, CA?
I’m so glad you asked because honestly I had never heard of Roseville until Michael brought it up. In fact, I seriously thought we were going to Sacramento, California the whole time we were heading to Roseville. So to answer your question, Roseville is about 30 miles from Sacramento, CA (aka, California’s capital) and just a few minutes from Granite Bay, CA.
What Kind of Area is Roseville, California?
Roseville is a huge city in California. There’s tons of shopping, lots of restaurants, and a decent selection of hotels.
Roseville has one of those vibes where you feel completely safe and the people there are seriously sooooo friendly. No offense east coast friends, people on the west coast literally went out of their way to help any time we needed anything and they weren’t afraid to strike up a conversation with us.
What Did We Do in Roseville?
Remember how I talked about how our plans to stay in California for a few months last year but they got canceled because of COVID? Well, that offer kind of came back on the table, but because Michael got another job, we aren’t able to attend, (as of now) so the guy who has been mentoring Michael for the last 3-years invited us out to a different type of training. This time it was on the Sanctuary and would only last 3-days compared to the few months the other training would have been.
While I didn’t think it would be possible to even go to California because traveling cross country is pretty expensive – but y’all God had other plans and He really does know what’s best.
Because just a few days before we left for Cali, we got our stimulus check which basically paid for our trip. Don’t worry this was still probably one of our most frugal trips – ever!
So we left for California via car on Sunday and we made it to Roseville early Thursday morning, though we could have made it sooner if we really wanted to.
Roseville was a complete different atmosphere than home in Maryland and there was just so much that we could have done if we would have had the time. But since one of the main reasons we came out was to meet Michael’s friend that he only ever talked to online we decided to meet up with him right away.
Religious TMI coming up: And, since he works for the ministry holding the training that we were there for we got a pretty cool tour of the new Amazing Facts W.O.R.D. Center (World Outreach, Revival, and Discipleship) – in Granite Bay. (In case you don’t know what that place is, check out the website, they do some pretty amazing evangelism all over the world and they have some awesome speakers to listen to, too!)
Our time is Roseville was mainly spent at the training I mentioned, but it was an absolute mind-blowing, worth-while experience! You can watch the full experience on YouTube to see what I am talking about. There were 14 presentations – 14 hours worth of learning and I got so much from it! And, if you’re wondering what we did we the kids, they sat with us for the whole entire presentation, for 3-days! They loved it too though and we really felt like the Holy Spirit impressed on our hearts – hard – while we were there.
While we did spend almost all of our other time shopping in Roseville, there were a few cool sites to see nearby including the Folsom Prison. In case you have no idea why I am adding a prison to this post, it’s the prison where Johnny Cash sang the famous Folsom Prison Blues song. It’s basically just a working prison, but if you’re into seeing something just to say you did, I recommend a quick stop there. There’s even a small museum on the grounds that may be worth checking into, if you’re hardcore into history.
Where Did We Stay in Roseville?
We stayed at a Fairfield Inn and Suites in Roseville and, if you’re looking for somewhere to stay, I really wouldn’t recommend this hotel. Though it wasn’t the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed at, it wasn’t the best neither. There was a lot this hotel was lacking and we were honestly so disappointed with our stay. If you do need to stay in Roseville, I recommend finding another hotel in the area because there are so many other hotels that are probably better. Plus, this one tacked on a $10 a day parking fee just to park in their parking lot!!!
While our trip to Roseville ended too soon, I honestly think we will go back one day. Whether its for that training Michael wants or for something else, I highly recommend visiting Roseville – its nothing like you would think it would be. Trust me!
Have you ever visited Roseville?!
