While heading out west in August, we found ourselves passing by the Topeka Capitol Building in Kansas. As someone who loves historic architecture, I couldn’t resist asking Michael to stop for a few quick photos. What I didn’t expect was to discover that the Capitol Building in Topeka, KS offers free admission—so, of course, I convinced him to take the kids inside with me. And I’m so glad I did!

Inside the Topeka Capitol Building

Upon entering, visitors must go through a brief security checkpoint since the Topeka Capitol Building is still an active government building. After that, you can choose between a self-guided tour or a free guided tour.

Since we were short on time, we opted for the self-guided tour, which allowed us to explore at our own pace. However, if you have extra time, I highly recommend the guided tour—you’ll get access to even more areas of the Capitol Building in Topeka, KS and learn fascinating details about its history.
