Welcome back to another awesome Road Trip Detour Series, volume 2! This time our road trip took us to Fairfield, California to the Jelly Belly Factory Tour!

jelly belly factory store in Fairfield ca

Located near the beautiful Napa Valley of California we found the Jelly Belly Factory Tour solely by accident. But once we saw it, there was NO turning back! We had to go inside and, once we were inside, we were in for a treat – both literally & figuratively!

What is the Jelly Belly Factory Tour?

The Jelly Belly Factory Tour is quite literally one of the sweetest places to visit in Fairfield, California. Whether you’re going to feel up on sweet Jelly Belly treats, or you want to take an affordable tour and see how your favorite Jelly Belly jellybeans are made – there’s something for everyone at the Jelly Belly Factory and Outlet store.

For just $5 an adult and $2 for kids, this tour is quite affordable and offers an up-close and personal view of how Jelly Belly candy is made.

Our Jelly Belly Tour Experience

Of course whenever I heard Jelly Belly offered a factory tour, I wanted to do it. But when I found out the tour cost, I was a little conflicted as to whether or not I actually wanted to pay to see how Jelly Belly candy was made. In the past, we have visited numerous factory tours including; the Snyder’s Pretzel Outlet in Hanover, PA and the Hershey Chocolate Tour and we never had to pay.

Though $16 for 2 adults and 3 kids isn’t a lot of money, it still seemed kind of steep for a 30-minute self-guided, walk-through tour. But in order to do the most throughout post of the Jelly Belly Factory Tour and Outlet Store, I decided to fork out the $16 and pray the tour was worth it. And, to my surprise, just for going on the tour, each of us got a small bag of Jelly Belly Candy Corn and 1 micro-small bag of Jelly Belly jellybeans.

One thing you have to do on the Jelly Belly tour though, regardless if you want to or not, is wear a Jelly Belly paper hat.

During our tour, it wasn’t really much different than other tours we’ve been on. While we didn’t get close to the factory workers and the machines, we were able to watch from a birds-eye view and see how the process worked. We even saw the most jellybeans – ever – inside the tour.

There were even two spots where we got to play an interactive game on a computer screen. Other than that, the tour really had no over-the-top memorable moments. And, at the end, there was another chance to spend money and buy a picture of your group at the Jelly Belly factory. While we didn’t purchase the picture due to the high price, I was kind of disappointed how literally everything in the tour cost.

The Jelly Belly Outlet Store

Even if you decide not to do the Jelly Belly Tour, you can visit just for the Jelly Belly Outlet store. In the store you can find a large amount of Jelly Belly candy, a chocolate shop, a cafe, a discount Jelly Belly section, and some really cool jellybean art.

Though the store is an outlet store, the prices aren’t quite as stock-up as many other outlets are. But you can still grab your favorite Jelly Belly flavors while you are there.

Finally, is this a place we would ever visit again? I don’t think so. I personally found this road trip detour a bit pricey for just jelly beans. Was it cool to see? Sure, but there was no wow-worthy moments and, in the end, I don’t think it was that memorable of an experience.
