PureFlix’s Going Home Season 1 Episode 5 Box Full of Letters Recap

by Crystal Carder

I don’t know if you have been watching the NEW original PureFlix series Going Home, but if you haven’t you seriously should be. It’s so good and very relatable! I know you’re going to want to hear all about it but first, I must warn you, it’s not your average show. The show is about death and dying.

The show follows an inspiring team of hospice nurses who help guide patients and loved ones in their transition from this earth. It’s a race against time as the nurses must help their clients find peace and wrap up loose ends with compassion and dignity.

Going Home, Episode 5 – Box Full of Letters Recap

If you thought the last 4 episodes of Going Home were heartbreaking, they are nothing compared to episode 5, Box Full of Letters. This episode was heartbreaking and highly emotional. Episode 5 deals with child loss and, though it’s done tastefully, it’s still a topic that many of you may struggle to watch.

Episode 5 of Season 1, Box Full of Letters follows the story of a girl named Steph. Steph has Juvenile Huntington’s Disease and she is slowly dying. It’s a disease she and her mother watched her father die from, a few years previous to her diagnosis and she knew all too well what to expect so she leaves her mother a box full of letters. Telling her only to read them once she can no longer speak.

In the episode, we see the mother, Sadie, guarding these letters with her life, but refusing to open them. Though the nurses don’t know, at first, who these letters are or why they are so important to her, Nurse Charley soon finds out and encourages Sadie to read through the letters.

And, it seems like Steph has made a letter for her mother for every possible scenario. She even made one for the nurses who are taking care of her.

If you’ve been following the story of Nurse Charley’s friend, Katherine, don’t worry episode 5 also continues her story. Katherine is now living in Sunset House and her husband, keeps bringing her plants in because he doesn’t want them to die. It soon becomes evident that he’s not worried about the plants dying, it’s his wife he doesn’t want to die.

Going Home, episode 5 is my favorite episode thus far. And, trust me, I cried like a baby after watching it, but the show really made me see all the blessings I have in my life right now.

I really recommend you go watch Box Full of Letters yourself and if you don’t have PureFlix, I am offering 1 lucky reader a chance to win 3-months of PureFlix for FREE! To enter just follow the instructions in the giveaway widget below.

This sounds like a really great show. I love the content that PureFlix has. It’s so nice to be able to not have to worry about anything that’s not family-friendly when I put a show on.
