If you are planning a trip to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, I suggest you consider booking a stay at the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel. From the moment you arrive, it will be apparent that this hotel is unlike any other hotel. Staying here will transport you back to 1863 when the country fought one of its deadliest battles in the Battle of Gettysburg.
From the moment you walk into the front entrance, an authentic Battle of Gettysburg canon sits in the front lobby, the decor is themed back in time, and the carpet has an American Presidential theme to it.
Everywhere you look, pictures hang, reminding the guest that Gettysburg is more than just any ole’ town. It’s the town Abraham Lincoln gave the infamous Gettysburg Address speech; the town where an estimated 51,000 soldiers lost their lives.
All around the hotel, you feel like your walking in a historic museum. Then, you come to a small restaurant right in the front lobby. The restaurant keeps the theme of Gettysburg and is called 1863 Restaurant and Lounge.
The Restaurant is kind of off to the side, and patrons eat in privacy, so hotel guest do not see them. There’s a small lounge off to the other corner and it looks like the kind of lounge that soldiers would have sat in, talking about their day.
Off to the opposite side of the hotel, guest can complete their stay at they Wyndham hotel with snacks and souvenirs from their own little gift shop.
More hallways remind patrons that they are visiting the historic town of Gettysburg.
During our stay at the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel, our family had the best time that we’ve had in a long time. We felt like we had found that home away from home. Unlike most other hotels, the Wyndham Hotel was very accommodating. If we needed anything, the staff were always willing and happy to help.
The night we arrived, we had been in the car for what seemed like forever and we couldn’t wait to see our hotel. Even though, we looked at a million pictures of the hotel online, when we got to the hotel, we had no idea it would be even more gorgeous in person.
The Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel is one of the largest hotels in the entire town of Gettysburg and it actually looks more like a resort than a hotel.
Part of the Gateway Gettysburg, the hotel is conveniently located beside a Courtyard Marriott Hotel, a Gateway Theater 8 movie theater, and the Appalachian Brewing Company BrewPub and Grill. Hotel guest can even incorporate a special family slumber package into their hotel stays and receive a family pack of tickets to the Gateway Theater 8.
Here are all the packages the hotel offers:
- Shoppers Delight
- Ghost of Gettysburg
- Collector’s Keepsake Getaway
- Gettysburg Family Slumber
- Explorer Package
- Gettysburg Civil War History Package
Even though we didn’t take advantage of the special packages, we were told we could buy discount theater tickets, if the desk had extras. Upon checking in, we were given a 6th-floor room key, but before we went up to our room, we decided to take a small, quick tour of the hotel.
In case you want a tour too, we created this quick little video:
When we got up to our hotel room, I already knew we were staying in a queen double bedroom, so I wasn’t expecting any big surprises opening the door. But, when I opened the door, the hotel was kind enough to leave a little welcome gift on our table.
The room was perfect in every way. It was clean, fairly large, and had all the necessary amenities including; wi-fi, a mini-fridge, coffee maker, flat-screen television, and a large shower. The beds in the room, were probably my favorite thing because they were extremely comfortable and I’m pretty sure, I haven’t slept so good in a long time.
After we got settled into our hotel room, we headed to the swimming pool area. Thankfully, since the Wyndham Gettysburg is such a large hotel, that meant their swimming area was large enough to allow a bunch of people to swim together.
While we stayed at the hotel for 2 nights, we didn’t spend a lot of time in the hotel because the hotel is conveniently located to everything Adams County has to offer. But if you’re planning a trip to Gettysburg, I would definitely book your stay at the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel because it’s perfect in every way.
