If you’re looking for a Bible that is easy to carry without sacrificing the readability and features you want, the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible is worth a look. This compact Bible combines the easy-to-understand New Living Translation (NLT) with a slim, portable design and Filament-enabled features that give you access to additional Bible study resources right from your phone.
I received a copy of this Bible in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links, thank you for supporting my blog.
I’ve always been a firm believer in taking my Bible with me, whether I’m heading to church, traveling, camping, or simply want to keep one nearby for everyday reading. That’s one of the things I love about the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible. It’s small enough to easily take with you wherever you go, but it still has the features you want in a regular Bible. It gives you the convenience of a compact Bible without feeling like you’re giving up the functionality of a full-size Bible.
In this NLT Pocket Thinline Bible review, I’ll take a closer look at the size, design, readability, features, Filament resources, and overall usability to help you decide whether this Bible is a good fit for you.
First Impressions of the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible
I’ll be honest, when it comes to Thinline Bibles, I’ve only ever actually reviewed a handful of them. So when the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible arrived on my doorstep, I was honestly in awe over just how tiny it was! At first, I thought there was no way this little Bible could include the entire Old and New Testaments. But after browsing through it, I quickly realized that this NLT Pocket Bible leaves nothing out!
Even though it has such a compact design, you still get the complete Bible, including red-letter text for the words of Christ. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much Bible is packed into such a small size.
Of course, with a Bible this compact, there is a trade-off when it comes to print size. The NLT Pocket Thinline Bible uses a 6-point font. It’s not the smallest Bible font I’ve ever seen, but it is definitely small. If you wear glasses or find yourself squinting when reading smaller print, the font size is something you’ll want to consider before purchasing this Bible.
Still, if portability is your biggest goal, this Bible has a lot to offer. At just $20, I think the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible is well worth the price tag for anyone looking for a compact Bible they can easily take with them wherever they go.
Filament-Enabled NLT Pocket Thinline Bible
One of my favorite features of the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible is that it is Filament-enabled. If you’ve never used a Filament Bible before, this is a really neat feature that gives you access to additional Bible study resources through the Filament app.
The idea is pretty simple. You use your phone to scan the page of your Bible, and the Filament app connects you to additional resources related to what you’re reading. This includes things like study notes, devotionals, reading plans, videos, maps, and other Bible study tools.
I really like that this doesn’t add a bunch of extra pages to an already small Bible. Instead, you get to keep the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible small and lightweight while still having access to additional study resources when you want them.
For me, that makes this more than just a convenient Bible to throw in your bag. You can take this little Bible with you to church, on a camping trip, while traveling, or pretty much anywhere else, and still have the option to dig deeper into Scripture when you have your phone with you.
NLT Pocket Thinline Bible Features
For such a small Bible, the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible actually includes quite a few features without feeling too bulky.
One feature I really like is the ribbon marker, which makes it easy to keep your place as you read. It also includes a presentation page, making it a nice option if you’re looking for a Bible to give as a gift.
The Tyndale Verse Finder is another handy feature, especially when you’re looking for a particular verse or topic. And, of course, you get the words of Jesus in red, which is a feature I always appreciate in a Bible.
Some of the features of the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible include:
- Compact, lightweight design
- 6-point font
- Filament-enabled
- Words of Jesus in red
- Ribbon marker
- Tyndale Verse Finder
- Presentation page
For a Bible this small, I think Tyndale did a great job of including the features that matter without adding unnecessary bulk. It really does feel like a full Bible in a pocket-sized format.
Final Thoughts on the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible
Overall, I really like the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible. I’ll admit that when I first pulled it out of the package, I wasn’t sure how I felt about just how small it was. But once I started looking through it, I was impressed that Tyndale was able to fit the entire Bible into such a compact size without leaving out the features I look for in a Bible.
The 6-point font is definitely something to keep in mind. If you have trouble reading smaller print, this probably isn’t going to be the best Bible for you. But if you’re looking for something lightweight and easy to carry, the small size is a huge plus. I’ve decided to store this Bible in my car’s glove compartment, and I love knowing that no matter where I travel to, God’s word is always with me.
I also really like having the Filament feature available. It gives you the option to keep your physical Bible small while still having access to additional Bible study resources when you want to dig deeper.
At just $20, I think the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible is a great value. It would make a great everyday Bible, travel Bible, camping Bible, or even a thoughtful gift for someone who wants a Bible they can easily take with them.
If you’re looking for a compact NLT Bible that doesn’t leave out the entire Bible or sacrifice useful features just because of its small size, I definitely think the NLT Pocket Thinline Bible is worth considering.
