When I was a teenage girl, I only remember having one bible; it was blue, KJV, and didn’t appeal to me at all. I always wanted a bible that was more for me and less for my parents, but at the time, there wasn’t such a vast selection of bibles on the market. Now that I’m older, I’m a bit more obsessed with all the fun and unique bibles that keep coming out on the market like my newest find, the NIV True Images The Bible For Teen Girls.
This bible is a remake from the True Images Bible that has been out for over 15 years, but this was my first time ever looking at this bible.
From the cover of this bible, it is instantly appealing. Polka dots grace the cover and the bible uses a newer, modern design.
Upon opening the NIV True Images Bible, I was instantly pleased. This bible has all of the cutesy symbols and designs that most teenage girls are into. From the moment I started reading the first few pages, I was impressed. Instead of just starting out with the Old Testament and the book of Genesis, this bible tells readers where to start. It’s first suggestion is starting with one of the first Mirror Images profiles, Eve. This profile makes Eve a person that girls can relate to now in our day and age.
Instead of Eve being the first person who ate the forbidden apple, this bible compared her with someone who can’t say no. After reading a few of the other Mirror Images, I really liked NIV True Images Bible brought out a relateable side to bible characters we’ve known all our life.
Along with the Mirror Images, this bible also features reading plans for teenage girls who want to read the bible. While I’ve noticed a lot of bibles having reading plans in, I really find it even more valuable in a bible for our youth.
Some of the other things I found this bible had that I loved were:
- a Presentation Page
- Introductions to the chapters in the bible that included who wrote them and where they were wrote.
- modern fonts, pink chapter headings
While there wasn’t much I didn’t like about the NIV True Images Bible for Teen Girls, there was one thing that I was a bit torn over. This bible features 24 magazine-like pages with quizzes for girls to learn more about themselves. At first, I wanted to be open and like that about this bible, but after reading through the quizzes, I don’t really feel like most of them belong in the bible.
Some of the titles of the quizzes felt like I was reading through a Cosmo magazine as opposed to learning God’s word. While this bible is meant to be for young teenage girls, I feel like there could have been better quizzes to incorporate into a bible.
While I didn’t like the magazine-style pages, I am sure some teens may. The NIV True Images Bible, The Bible for Teen Girls is a great bible and contains a lot of wisdom for teenagers, so I would recommend it.
