Parents, get ready! Light of the World opens in theaters this Friday, September 5th. This movie is one of the first Christian animated films for kids to come available on the big screen, bringing Bible stories to life in a way the whole family can enjoy. About Light of the World
This beautiful, 2D-animated story of Jesus is told through the eyes of his young friend, the Apostle John. From the
beginning of Jesus’ ministry through his crucifixion and resurrection, Light of the World powerfully illustrates how Jesus of Nazareth changed the world forever and still changes lives today!
What is Light of the World About?
Set in AD 30, Light of the World brings to life the long-awaited moment when the Messiah arrives. But Jesus is not exactly what people expected. As John, James, Andrew, Peter, and their companions encounter Him, they embark on an unforgettable journey that changes everything.
Told through the eyes of the Apostle John, this beautifully crafted 2D-animated film takes viewers from the beginning of Jesus’ ministry to His crucifixion and victorious resurrection. Light of the World powerfully shows how Jesus of Nazareth transformed history — and how He continues to transform lives today.
If you loved the golden era of hand-drawn animation in the 1990s, you’ll be delighted by this film’s stunning artistry. This is the very first feature from the Salvation Poem Project, a ministry devoted to sharing Jesus with the world. It’s directed by John Schafer, producer of the beloved program Superbook, and Tom Bancroft, a long-time Disney animator whose credits include The Lion King, Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast.
Movieguide calls Light of the World “beautifully animated and entertaining … based entirely on the Bible” and praises how “it stresses faith, family, and trusting in God’s plan.” It’s a true family movie that kids and adults alike will enjoy.

My Review: Why Light of the World Is a Must-See
You’ll have to wait just a couple more days to see Light of the World in theaters, but I had the chance to watch a prescreener — and wow! This film blew me away. It’s entertaining, eye-opening, and deeply meaningful.
While this is technically a Hollywood take on the Bible, the story is handled with care and respect. There are a few added moments and bits of dialogue that aren’t directly from Scripture, but they feel natural and help bring the characters and story to life. Overall, it stays true to the heart of the Gospel and paints a beautiful picture of who Jesus is.
If you’ve never experienced the story of Jesus before, this is a wonderful and memorable introduction, told in a way that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
Why Your Family Should Go See Light of the World
Faith-based family movies are rare on the big screen, and supporting them helps ensure more of these powerful stories get made. Take your family, invite your friends, or organize a church group and make opening weekend (September 4–7) a special event.
This is one of those rare films that is fun to watch, biblically meaningful, and safe for kids — a perfect family night at the movies.
