Ever since we picked up our Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, I’ve been counting down the days for the release of the new Kirby Air Riders game, and it is finally here! Nintendo was kind enough to send me a copy to review, and I could not wait to dive into this fast-paced, fun Kirby adventure and share everything with you.

When I first saw the trailer for Kirby Air Riders, I was instantly hooked. My family and I have spent countless hours playing Mario Kart, and while it’s our go-to Nintendo Switch 2 game, it’s always fun to try something new. Kirby Air Riders offers a fresh, exciting way to enjoy multiplayer racing and adventure all in one game.
From the moment we turned on our Nintendo Switch 2 and the opening screen appeared, our kids were instantly excited. Michael and I felt a wave of nostalgia hit us, and we could not wait to start playing.
Kirby Air Riders allows up to four players at a time on split-screen, so everyone can play together on the same console. Since we are a family of five, someone has to take turns, and usually that person is me. Honestly, it was really hard just watching everyone else play because I absolutely wanted to jump in and take my turn. You can also compete with other riders online or locally with up to five players in a single match, and for even bigger gatherings, the Paddock lets you connect with up to 32 players online, where you can hang out and join matches in City Trial, Air Ride, Top Ride, and more.
The graphics in Kirby Air Riders are phenomenal. Nintendo always does a fantastic job in this area, but Kirby Air Riders takes it to a whole new level. Every detail feels thoughtfully designed, from the vibrant worlds to the smooth animation, making the game an absolute joy to play.
The music in the game is equally impressive. Fans of the classic Nintendo tunes we grew up with will feel a wave of nostalgia, while younger children and teenagers will be drawn in by the catchy, energetic soundtrack. It’s the perfect mix of familiar and fresh, adding even more fun to every match.
The gameplay in Kirby Air Riders is fast, fun, and easy to pick up, making it perfect for players of all ages. Each level offers its own unique challenges and surprises, keeping every match fresh and exciting. The controls are intuitive and responsive, so even younger players can jump right in and enjoy the game without getting frustrated.
You can also use Amiibo figures to enhance gameplay, unlocking special features and adding another layer of fun. Whether you want to compete for fun in casual online matches or go all out for glory in ranked matches, there’s something for every type of player.
While the online and multiplayer gameplay in Kirby Air Riders is exciting and keeps the competition lively, our favorite moments are in the single-player mode. In single-player challenges, we get to experience the same fun playstyles as the multiplayer mode, but with a focus on progressing through unique levels and objectives. Each challenge feels exciting, featuring wild and unusual stories with a variety of characters, keeping us engaged and entertained as we explore every corner of Kirby’s colorful world.
Kirby Air Riders offers a variety of game modes that keep gameplay exciting and versatile. In Air Ride, players race at high speeds while using special abilities to gain an edge over their opponents. This mode is fast-paced and requires using boost charges to brake and control turns while maintaining top speed. Air Ride is also the main mode my family and I play together, and we absolutely love it. At first, it was a bit tricky to get the hang of all the controls, but once we did, the gameplay became incredibly fun and addictive.
In Top Ride, players race from above, tackling courses from a completely new perspective. With the entire track visible on screen from start to finish, planning turns and strategies becomes a fun and engaging challenge. It took a little time to get used to the perspective, but once we did, it offered unique way to experience the game. City Trial quickly became another favorite mode.
In City Trial, you explore the city, collect power-ups, and prepare for a final showdown in the stadium, offering a perfect mix of exploration and competition that brings a sense of classic Nintendo nostalgia. Road Trip adds a story-driven element to the game, letting you complete challenges and follow unique adventures with Kirby and friends, making it a fun and engaging experience for players of all ages.
Overall, Kirby Air Riders is a fantastic addition to the Nintendo Switch 2 lineup. It offers something for everyone, from fast-paced multiplayer races and large online gatherings to story-driven single-player challenges that let you explore Kirby’s world in unique ways. The combination of vibrant graphics, nostalgic and energetic music, intuitive controls, and varied game modes makes it a game that families and players of all ages can enjoy together.
