I Got an AncestryDNA Kit for Christmas and the Results Are IN!

This past Christmas my in-laws bought me an Ancestry DNA Kit. It was the only thing I wanted for Christmas after diving into my Ancestry Family Tree earlier last year. And while I knew there was a possibility of finding a long-lost relative, I never dreamed my results would come up with something equally shocking about my family!

Submitting the Ancestry DNA Kit

After receiving my Ancestry DNA kit, I drug my feet on submitting it. Mostly because I wasn’t sure I should submit my DNA to an online website but also because the kit kind of intimidated me. But once I opened the box with my kit inside, everything was clearly explained to me. So, I spit in the test tube, shook it up a bit, and mailed it off in the prepaid shipping box that was included. While it took about two weeks to get a notification that my results had arrived, it wasn’t until much later that my DNA was finally extracted and put through the process of finding long-lost relatives.

From the day Ancestry.com received my DNA to the day I finally got my results was about 8 weeks. It was a lengthy process, but it was completely worth the wait. And, Ancestry.com notified me throughout the whole process of what was going on.

Getting My Results

While I was a little impatient with my results, I finally got a notification on Friday morning, (2/26), that my DNA results were in. What I found next, was shocking – I had a half-uncle whom my whole family had not known about for almost 60 years! Even though things are still pretty new, I am so happy I took the DNA test. I love that have the chance to connect with family we didn’t know about and, after the initial shock, my family was all pretty accepting as well.

Though I can honestly say I never imagined finding something exciting out about my family, I couldn’t be happier with my family’s results and I’m encouraging EVERYONE to try a DNA kit because who knows, you may just have a lost family member too!
