Hustling 101: Hustling Ideas to Try When You’re Broke

One of the best things about Michael’s job in evangelism is the freedom to go anywhere we want and be off anytime we want. We’re living the dream. Unfortunately, living the dream comes with some downfalls like; being off for months every year.  These months can be rough with a family of 5. We still have bills to pay and the kids still need things. To help make ends meet, we have learned to hustle and find extra ways to make more money.

I feel like hustling is something everyone in 2024 should know how to do. Living paycheck to paycheck is NO fun. These simple tips will help you secure financial freedom and allow you to make extra cash.

Hustling Ideas to Try When You Are Broke

DoorDash, InstaCart, Uber Eats…

One of my favorite ways to earn extra cash when we’re off, or even traveling, is by using delivery services like; DoorDash, InstaCart, and Uber Eats.

These services allow regular people – like you and me – to sign up to their platforms and become independent contractors. Once you pass the background check and get approved, it’s so easy to earn extra cash with these networks. All you have to do is find a busy area, go online – or schedule your time to work, and begin making deliveries.

You won’t get rich with these networks, but people can make a decent income by hustling with them. On my best day, I made around $60 in 3 deliveries that took less than an hour and a half.

Sell old stuff on platforms like; eBay, Poshmark, and Facebook Marketplace

Another one of my favorite hustles that has turned into a business for me, is selling my old stuff online. It’s so simple to do and you can start just by decluttering your household stuff. That first sale always feels amazing. Just be honest with your listings and you should be successful. You can even check out some of these helpful resources I have created for selling on Poshmark or use this handy eBay Sales Tracker.

I started selling old clothes on Poshmark and have since turned it into a successful side hustle. While I haven’t gotten rich, I have earned enough money to help pay the bills, buy Christmas for the kids, and even help pay for a family vacation. I have found joy in selling old clothes, but if you want to try something different, eBay is great for selling all sorts of items.

Buy & Resell

I know resellers catch a lot of heat, but it’s not because it’s not a successful side hustle. Reselling can bring in a lot of extra money when done right. When buying things to resell, it’s important to look at the price you’re paying and what you can make out of it when you sell it. If the item needs a lot of work, you want to be sure you don’t have to put more money into the item than you will make. Some great places to find things to buy and resell are thrift stores, yard sales, Facebook Marketplace, and friends and family.

In the past, some of the best finds I was able to sell were; tractors, antiques, and horse items. It’s important when you are reselling to know your market and how much other sellers are selling the same item for. I like to sell some of my items lower and make a fast profit, rather than wait and store the item for a long time.

Of course, these aren’t the only ways you can hustle to make money but they are some of my favorite ways! I would love to hear from you, do you have any favorite hustles you do to make more money when you’re broke? If you do, share them in the comments below, or just let me know what you think.
