We all have that one memory that stands out from childhood. For me, it is definitely family movie nights. My parents always had a way of making movie night special for me and my sisters. Every week, they would seem to find the funniest movies and make the most delicious snacks. We would all just lay around the television laughing and joking together. Now that I am a mom of three kids, I want to instill those same memories in my children’s lives. That’s why this year I am attempting to do movie nights more often. If you’ve ever attempted to have a family movie night and failed, you’re in luck! These 4 simple tricks will help your family have more successful movie nights and make more memories together.
Make Movie Night a Success

Choose an Age-Appropriate Movie
As we all know, the biggest decision you have to make with movie night is picking the movie. If you decide to pick a movie that isn’t age-appropriate, you could just ruin the whole movie night. Whenever it comes to deciding on a movie for movie night with the whole family, I suggest picking a movie that is rated PG or lower. Since these movies usually are the most family-friendly, you likely won’t have to stop the movie halfway in and change it. Having an age-appropriate movie can literally make or break your next movie night.
Remove All Distractions
We’re all busy, I get that. We all have things we want to do and stopping for 2-hours feels like a lifetime. In order to have the most successful family movie night, you have to remove any and all distractions. Things like cell phones, toys, and other distractions that keep the whole family from being together and enjoying a movie should always be removed before you start a family movie night, or else, family movie night won’t be special.
Have Plenty of Snacks
One of my favorite things about movie night is the snacks! As a foodie, I absolutely love enjoying movie night with a bunch of delicious goodies like; popcorn, chips, veggies, and, sometimes, even pizza. I find that whenever we add snacks to our movie night, we have to stop the movie a lot less and enjoy it even more. With snacks, there’s never a reason to be hungry during the movie and there’s always a lot less talking. Adding snacks to your movie night makes it more enjoyable for the whole family and gives you more of a chance of having a successful movie night!
Choose a Movie the Whole Family Will Love
Whenever it comes to having a successful movie night, making sure you choose a movie that the whole family will love is very important. If the whole family isn’t interested in the movie, chances are, movie nights will never last. For our family’s last movie night, I picked a movie that was perfect for the night, Goosebumps 2. Goosebumps 2 is the second installment of the family-friendly franchise based on R.L. Stine’s beloved book series.
When I saw that Goosebumps 2 was hitting the shelves at my local Walmart in a Walmart Exclusive Goosebumps 1 and Goosebumps 2 movie collection on Blu-ray, I knew it would be one my whole family would love. Since my husband and I grew up reading the Goosebumps series, I knew my kids would be at the perfect age to watch this PG-rated movie.
Starring some of my favorite actors and actresses; Jack Black, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Chris Parnell, Ken Jeong, Madison Iseman, Jeremy Ray Taylor, and Caleel Harris, this movie is a fun-filled family adventure your kids will love!
With bonus features including a gag reel full of hilarious hijinks, three all-new deleted scenes, and five featurettes, this movie is perfect for a family movie night. Goosebumps 2 is now available at your local Walmart. Next time you and your family have a family movie night, I hope you will choose to watch Goosebumps 2 and implement some of these tips into your night. Remember when you make family movie night about the whole family, you’ll have more chance of it being successful.
