Today, Maryland’s governor officially announced Maryland’s Stay-at-Home order. I knew it was coming, but I’m not sure that makes it any better. 14-days  at home, is an extremely LONG time, for most of us. That’s why today, I wanted to share some fun things you can do at home during the stay-at-home order.

14 Fun Things You Can Do At Home During Stay-At-Home Orders

1. Start Your Family Tree Online at Ancestry.com

One of the things I’ve always been kind of obsessed with is my family tree. I love knowing what people I am related to and learning new things about them, but until recently, I only had access to information from my close family. That’s why I recently decided to dig into Ancestry.com and start a free 14-day trial.

The first time I started my family tree, I was hooked and now have found over 200 family members and counting! I’ve learned things about my ancestors and I even found documents and news stories to prove some of the stories I was told.

Whenever you sign up for a free 14-day trial at Ancestry.com during this quarantine, you can really spend some quality time learning about your family’s history. (p.s., you can even dig up dirt on family members which is always fun!)

2. Take a Virtual Tour of Some Really Cool Places

While our plans to go to California this summer aren’t completely off the table, I am pretty sure with this quarantine stuff that there won’t be any California this year. Though it’s sad, I am pretty excited for some of the free things that are popping up around the nation like, free virtual tours.

So far, I have seen virtual tours of museums, zoos, Disney World, and, my favorite – the Winchester Mystery House in California.

3. Study the Bible With Free Online Bible Studies

If there has ever been a more uncertain time in life, it’s now. That’s why I know many of us may be searching for answers. Studying the Bible doesn’t have to involve anyone, you can get access to free online Bible studies and you can even access free Bibles online to go with them. If you need a little help, there are also plenty of resources available.

One of my favorite online Bible studies are these ONES. They are the studies I’ve personally done and the questions and answers are strictly from the Bible.

4. Learn Something New

One advantage of this quarantine is that there are tons of companies offering free trials for us at home. Some of these companies are ones that you can actually learn something new with. Though this COMPANY is always free to join, you can learn a lot just by signing up and getting started with their free online courses.

5. Finally Start a Blog

It looks like the majority of us are stuck inside. What better time to finally start a blog? If you’ve been considering it for awhile, why not finally try? You have at least 2 whole weeks to write to your heart’s content, I bet you can make some seriously amazing blog post within that time.

While I can’t guarantee your blog will make money, I will say blogging is very therapeutic and can help you with some of those feelings of anxiety right now.

6. Spruce Up On Your Baking & Cooking Skills

Considering how much baking supplies have flown off the shelves these past few weeks, I am going to guess, people are planning on doing a lot of baking and homestyle cooking these next two weeks. That’s why this stay-at-home order is the perfect time to finally spruce up on your baking and cooking skills at home. Maybe instead of opting for spaghetti and garlic bread, try spaghetti and homemade bread. Whatever you decide, I am sure it will be fun the get the whole family involved. You could even use this time as an opportunity to teach the kids, or your husband, to cook.

7. Declutter and Make a Few Extra Bucks

While the mail is still going, there is one thing you could do while you are home during the stay-at-home order, you can declutter and learn how to make a few extra bucks while you’re stuck at home. Millions of people use sites like eBay, Poshmark, and Kidizen to sell their unwanted clothes and other supplies, so why not finally cash in on all those clothes you hate to throw away.

Who knows, you may just find a new hobby or launch a successful business selling clothes online.

8. Take Control of Finances

Maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s not, but one thing that I love doing is taking control of my family’s finances. With 14-days to do whatever, this will be the perfect opportunity for you to finally work on your family’s financial security and your credit.

And, if you’re out of work, you’re probably going to need to do some of these things. In fact, many banks and lenders are offering furloughed payments, you just need to let them know to get qualified.

Other things you can do to help your finances during these times is to finally take advantage of your free annual credit report that you get every year. Spend some time looking over each report and make sure to dispute any inaccuracy in your report.

9. Rejuvenate Your Skin

Okay, ladies, I cannot remember the last time I went with out makeup, but now that we are being ordered to stay home, why not finally rejuvenate our skin and keep the makeup off?! Not only can it save us some money, who’s going to actually see us?

It will be so fun not having to worry about doing our makeup routines, that our skin will definitely thank us for it later!

10. Read a New Book

I haven’t read a book over 30-pages since my kids were born. I said it! This at-home order is the perfect time to finally spend a few hours getting hooked on a new book.

Since you can’t get to a library, you can still read books online. Amazon even offers a free 1-month trial to KindleUnlimited. You get unlimited books and unlimited reading on any device. Plus since it’s online, there’s no need to leave your home to use it.

11. Binge Watch a New Show

If you haven’t already signed up for a streaming network, you may want to now. 14-days is a long time to be stuck at home, that’s why I suggest bing watching a new show. Streaming networks offer the most access to full-seasons, so I recommend finding a show you like and watching it through one of these sites.

Not sure what to watch? Netflix and Amazon Prime are great for adult shows, but for the kiddos, try Disney+.

12. Have Family Movie Nights

You may not be able to get out to the woods to camp right now, but you can make one pretty awesome family movie night. Just grab popcorn, make a fort, and spread out in front of the television watching all the best classic movies or check off movies from my movie bucket list. There’s so many favorites, that you should be covered for all 14-days.

13. Turn Off Alarms, Get Rid of Bedtimes

It’s not like most of us can work during this quarantine, so why not get rid of the whole bedtime/wake-up routine? Turn off the morning alarms and get rid of bedtime routines. Now is the perfect time to finally catch up on your sleep – if your kids are younger, that is.

14. Facetime Your Friends and Family

We may not be able to see our friends and family in person, but we can facetime them. Since many of our loved ones may be alone, this can be an extremely long and lonely time for them. Let’s help do our part by checking in on our family and friends and reminding them we care.

While these next two weeks may be some of the longest we ever had to endure, we will get through this! Let’s lift each other up and pray for one another as we fight COVID-19, and hopefully, win!!!

Tell me, how are you dealing with the stay-at-home orders?
