Encouraging Bible Verses for Hard Times

by Crystal Carder

These encouraging Bible verses for hard times will lift your spirit, refresh your soul, and encourage you to keep going.

I often think back to the Book of Job whenever life gets hard. If there was anyone in the Bible who ever had a reason to be discouraged, it was Job. He had lost his kids, possessions, health – practically everything. But Job withstood it all and in the end, God rewarded him for his faithfulness and gave him twice as much as before. (Job 42:10)

In the Book of Job, it’s also important to notice, that God may have allowed Job to go through those hard times, but He wasn’t the one who was causing the hard time, it was Satan. (Job 1:12, 2:6) Time after time, Satan tried to tell God that Job was only a righteous man because he was blessed, but even when God allowed Satan to attack Job, He still only allowed him to do so much to Him. God was still in charge.

A lot of times, it’s easy to think that God is punishing us whenever we are given a hard time, but just like the story of Job, we have to remember that God does not punish us. God loves us and uses these trials to test our faith.

Encouraging Bible Verses for Hard Times

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

This is probably the most encouraging Bible verse for whenever you’re going through a hard time. This Bible verse reassures us that God will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. If you are tempted He will provide a way out, so you can endure it.

These trials are only to test your faith, to see whether or not it is strong and pure. It is being tested as fire tests gold and purifies it—and your faith is far more precious to God than mere gold; so if your faith remains strong after being tried in the test tube of fiery trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day of his return.

1 Peter 1:7

We don’t often think of our trials as being something beneficial, but in 1 Peter it says our trials are used to test our faith. And that only makes perfect sense because when we are going through our trials we can either turn to God or turn away from God.

ROMANS 5:3-5 TRIALS A BLESSING

Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

Romans 5:3-5

In Romans 5 verses 3 thru 5, Paul reminds us to rejoice in our sufferings because suffering will bring us perseverance, character, and hope! This is such a great reminder when we are having a hard time because as mere human beings, it’s so easy to focus on the bad and miss out on all the blessings that God is giving us.

Cast your burden on the LordAnd He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

psalm 55:22

Psalm 55:22 is a beautiful Bible verse that tells us to cast our burdens on the Lord and He will sustain us! How amazing of a God we serve that He is willing to take our burdens and support us through them. Many of us don’t even have family and friends who are willing to do that.

The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble. And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.

psalm 9:9-10

A refuge provides us shelter and keeps us safe. Psalm 9:9-10 tells us that God will be our shelter in times of trouble and that He will not forsake us if we seek Him.

Whatever hard time you are going through, I hope these Bible verses provide encouragement for you. And, remember God loves you and He will NEVER leave you nor forsake you! (Deuteronomy 31:6)
