This next destination in my Road Trip Detour Series is one of the most scenic and beautiful locations in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. It’s another waterfall, but it’s absolutely gorgeous. And, if you hit it just right, you can almost certainly have the whole place to yourself!
It’s called Cole Run Falls and it’s located in the Laurel Highlands area of Pennsylvania and you’re going to want to make plans to visit ASAP!

Where is Cole Run Falls?
Cole Run Falls is located in Forbes State Forest in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. To access the small parking area to the falls, just put this address in your GPS:
Cole Run Falls, Middlecreek Township, PA 15557
How Long is the Hike to Cole Run Falls?
To see Cole Run Falls, the hike to the waterfall is fairly short. It’s just 100 feet from the parking lot to the falls and fairly easy to navigate. For those wanting a closer look at the falls, or to possibly stand under the falls, you will need to navigate down some small hills and over some rocks and dead trees.

Visiting Cole Run Falls in Somerset County, Pennsylvania
I was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and spent practically my whole life over there, so imagine my surprise when Michael and I typed in waterfalls in Somerset, Pennsylvania into Google, and Cole Run Falls popped up. We couldn’t wait to go visit the waterfall.
And, the following day, after a slight snow, we decided to head there. Unfortunately, we took our van and the road leading to the falls wasn’t too maintained for bald tires in the winter. We almost got stuck! So, we turned around and decided we would come back the following day and I am so glad we did!

Cole Run Falls is a gorgeous secluded waterfall. While the 15-foot drop does not make it the tallest waterfall in Pennsylvania, it is one of the most unique waterfalls with two tiers.

Whenever you visit Cole Run Falls you will have cell phone service, but you most likely will not see many people there during your visit. In fact, during our last two visits to Cole Run Falls, we didn’t see a single soul!
Before you leave, be sure to drive down the road a bit and see another local favorite spot called, Blue Hole. Blue Hole is a swimming hole and while it may look like just a hole, to some, this spot is extremely picturesque and the water looks blue! (hence the name)
