Finding a Christian movie for family night that everyone will actually enjoy isn’t always easy. Some faith-based films are incredibly well done, while others can feel low budget or have storylines that just don’t keep your attention. We’ve definitely started movies with high hopes only to turn them off halfway through because they just weren’t connecting with our family.
After years of family movie nights, we’ve found several Christian movies that are not only entertaining but also share powerful messages about faith, courage, forgiveness, and God’s love. These are the movies my family has enjoyed watching together, and many of them have sparked meaningful conversations long after the credits rolled.
Whether you’re planning a Friday night at home, looking for a movie to watch with your kids, or simply searching for a faith-filled film the whole family can enjoy, this list has something for every age. From inspiring true stories to animated adventures and family-friendly dramas, these Christian movies are worth adding to your watch list.

These are some of our family’s favorite Christian movies. While every family is different, these are the films we’ve watched, enjoyed, and would happily recommend for a family movie night.
1. I Can Only Imagine (2018)
If you’ve never seen I Can Only Imagine, I highly recommend adding it to your family movie night list. Inspired by the true story behind MercyMe’s hit song, this movie follows Bart Millard as he overcomes a difficult childhood and discovers the power of forgiveness.
This is one of those movies that will have you reaching for the tissues, but it’s also filled with hope and reminds us that God can bring beauty from even the hardest circumstances.
Why we love it: Powerful story, excellent acting, and a beautiful message about forgiveness and redemption.

2. I Can Only Imagine 2
If your family loved the first movie, I Can Only Imagine 2 continues the journey with another inspiring story of faith, perseverance, and trusting God through life’s challenges. While it’s difficult to top the original, it’s a meaningful sequel that encourages viewers to keep their eyes on Christ, even when life doesn’t go as planned.
Why we love it: Continues the story with themes of faith, hope, and trusting God.
Best for: Families who enjoyed the first movie.
3. God’s Not Dead Series

The God’s Not Dead movies have become some of the most recognizable Christian films released in recent years. While we’ve enjoyed the entire series, the first two movies are our favorites.
The original film follows a college student who is challenged to defend his faith in front of his philosophy class. God’s Not Dead 2 focuses on a high school teacher whose faith is put on trial after answering a student’s question about Jesus.
These movies encourage Christians to stand firm in their beliefs while showing the importance of speaking the truth with courage and grace.
Why we love them: They inspire meaningful conversations about faith and encourage believers to stand for what they believe.
Our favorites: God’s Not Dead and God’s Not Dead 2.
Best for: Teens and adults.
4. Lucy Shimmers and the Prince of Peace
Lucy Shimmers and the Prince of Peace quickly became one of our favorite Christmas movies. It’s a heartfelt story about hope, second chances, forgiveness, and the unexpected ways God can change lives.
Although it’s set during Christmas, its message is meaningful any time of year. It’s one of those movies that stays with you long after it’s over.
Why we love it: A touching reminder that hope and redemption are never out of reach.
Best for: Families with older children, teens, and adults.
5. I Still Believe
Based on the true story of Christian singer Jeremy Camp, I Still Believe is a powerful reminder that following God doesn’t always mean life will be easy. This emotional film explores love, loss, faith, and choosing to trust God even when life doesn’t make sense.
Why we love it: It’s an inspiring true story that reminds us to hold onto our faith through life’s hardest seasons.
Best for: Older teens and adults.
6. Unsung Hero
Unsung Hero tells the incredible true story of the Smallbone family before the success of Rebecca St. James and for KING & COUNTRY. It’s a heartfelt movie about trusting God through uncertainty, stepping out in faith, and seeing His provision in unexpected ways.
Why we love it: It’s inspiring, uplifting, and shows how God can work through ordinary families who choose to trust Him.
Best for: The whole family.
7. Joseph: King of Dreams
This animated retelling of Joseph’s story from the book of Genesis is one of our favorite Bible movies for family movie night. It does a wonderful job of sharing Joseph’s journey from betrayal to forgiveness while reminding us that God is always working behind the scenes.
Why we love it: Beautiful animation, memorable songs, and a biblical story that’s easy for kids to understand.
Best for: Families with younger children.
8. The Star

If you’re looking for a Christmas movie with a biblical message, The Star is a fun choice for the whole family. The story follows a brave little donkey who becomes part of the journey leading to the birth of Jesus. While it’s told from the animals’ perspective, it beautifully points back to the true meaning of Christmas.
Why we love it: It’s funny, family-friendly, and a great way to celebrate the Christmas season together.
Best for: All ages.
9. Heaven Bound
Heaven Bound is a lighthearted Christian comedy that follows a struggling church bus driver who unexpectedly becomes involved in a dangerous situation. Along the way, viewers are reminded about faith, forgiveness, and God’s ability to use ordinary people in extraordinary ways.

Why we love it: It’s a faith-filled story that reminds viewers of the power of prayer, hope, and God’s timing.
Best for: Families, teens, and adults.
11. Hacksaw Ridge
Hacksaw Ridge is based on the incredible true story of Desmond Doss, a World War II medic who served without carrying a weapon because of his deep Christian convictions. His courage, commitment to his faith, and willingness to save lives in the middle of one of the war’s bloodiest battles make this a powerful story of conviction and bravery.
This movie is a reminder that faith can give people strength to stand firm, even when facing incredible pressure and danger. Desmond Doss’s story shows what it looks like to live out your beliefs with courage.
Why we love it: It’s an inspiring true story about faith, courage, and standing by your convictions.
Parent Note: While this is an excellent faith-based movie for older teens and adults, it is not recommended for young children. The movie includes intense war scenes, graphic violence, and mature content that may be too much for younger viewers.
Best for: Older teens and adults.
12. The Book of Ruth
The Book of Ruth is a beautiful retelling of one of the Bible’s most beloved stories. Based on the Old Testament account of Ruth, this film highlights themes of loyalty, redemption, faithfulness, and trusting God’s plan even when the future is uncertain.
The story of Ruth reminds us that God is always working behind the scenes, even during seasons of loss and change. It is a powerful reminder that small acts of faithfulness can have a much bigger purpose than we may realize.
